Liz Lieu Born in Vietnam and raised in America, Liz Lieu is one of the more memorable faces at the poker table. Despite only being on the professional poker scene for four years she has already made $590k dollars in live tournament play, an impressive achievement considering she is mainly a cash game player. Lieu first burst onto the scene in 2005 when she entered the $1500 no-limit hold'em event at the WSOP and finished a very credible 5th. Since then she has cashed in several other big tournaments including back-to-back wins in 2006 and 2007 in the $1000 limit hold-em event at the Commerce Casino. Another of her biggest moments came in May 2006 when she challenged and beat Erik “The Salmon” Sagstrom in a three-game $600k heads-up match after he called her “a fish”. Known as the “Poker Diva” for her beautiful looks and style, she’s also known for her highly aggressive play – even her best friend John Phan calls her beauty and the beast. This combination is a dangerous mix at the poker table and some hold the view that she will be the next female to win a WSOP bracelet. Lieu spends a lot of time cultivating and promoting her image but she also has a caring side, supporting her family with her poker winnings and also donating a percentage to charity. She also travels back to her home country of Vietnam several times a year to do her own charity work. Expect to see a lot more of the Poker Diva in the near future.
